My first time at UofG open house

I woke up with a start, drowsily I climbed out of bed, when I suddenly remembered last night my parents telling me about today.
They told me that we were going to UofG.  I trembled with excitement. Immediately my drowsiness evaporated.  UofG held an open house every year, but stopped for three years due to covid, so this was my first time. On the way there it felt like hours before we arrived, even though it was only a 7 minute ride.  I just couldn’t wait!

When we got there, it took us a lot of map reading and time to figure out which entrance was the right one.
I mean the UofG was just so big! Finally after a lot of work we found the right place. The first place we went was the dairy barn/animal place. We saw a bunch of animals. There were cows with a funny patterned pelt sheep. Goats, with an affectionate gleam in their eyes. Baby ducklings with fussy soft looking fur. Fat pigs with adorable snouts, and horses. There was one in particular that was my favorite, he was a black horse with a shiny mane and long limbs. He was extraordinarily elegant and beautiful. They were all very cute, but the manure was very stinky. I liked all of them, but in my opinion the pigs were my favorite. A few of the things I like most were animals and I was thrilled to have a chance to be so close to them. The worker there was nice and let me take a photo with the horse, but I didn’t get to pet it. It might spread sickness, the worker had explained. I even got a kiss from the goat and the cow!!!

After that we walked to an entrance, there we went inside. In there we found a bunch of animal pelts, the mammal pelts we were allowed to touch. Some of the animals included:fox, skunk, bever, black bear, and squirrel. I was amazed at how soft the mammals fur was! We weren’t allowed to touch the birds though, but I wasn’t disappointed. It was amazing just looking at them. There were a variety of birds. I don’t remember all of them, but the ones that were most appealing to me are the: loon, snowy owl, mallard duck, eagle and blue jay. My personal favorite was the snowy owl, it had magnificent frost wings and a sharp beak, it was beautiful!

The next part basically frightened me to death . . .. . . the snakes! I despise snakes. There were small harmless garter snakes, and there were also giant rattlesnakes. I basically freaked out, I ran out of the room as fast as I could, I was petrified by terror. After that we went to a different place. There  I got this amazing face paint of a . . . skunk! Skunks are really stinky, I know. My dog got sprayed once. They’re really cute though! I really love animals and right now I can’t think of anything better than becoming a vet when I grow up. This might be my future university, I thought, when I just remembered that; UofG is top five in the world for educating veterinarians. When we finally went home I was exhausted, but it was so fun!
