Statutes of the Guelph Chinese-Canadian Cultural Group

I. Purpose

The Guelph Chinese-Canadian Cultural Group (GCCCG) is a non-profit organisation established to promote Chinese-Canadian multiculturalism and to enrich the scientific and technological exchanges and welfare of the Chinese in the Guelph area. It is dedicated to representing, defending and promoting the interests of Chinese people and their families who work, study and live in Guelph and the surrounding area. The Group is a non-religious, non-political and non-commercial organisation. The purpose of GCCCG is to promote exchanges and co-operation among members and other organisations, to enrich the cultural life of members, and to provide community services in the city. The GCCCG's activities are financed by membership fees, private donations of cash and property, and governmental public funds.

II. Membership

Membership in the GCCCG is open to all residents of Ontario and the surrounding area who are 18 years of age or older and who are willing to pay membership fees. For individuals who pay the family membership fee, the spouse and all unmarried children under 24 will become members.

Members are obliged to participate in the meetings and activities of the association. Members are obliged to advise and actively support the activities of the Group. Members (except children under the age of 18) have the right to vote and to be elected by the Group.

III. Council of the Association

     The Board of Directors of the Group, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, will carry out its activities in a spirit of enthusiasm and service to the members.

     The Council shall be composed of 7-9 councillors. The councillors will be elected by the General Assembly of the Group for a period of three years. In case of special circumstances, the Board of Directors has the right to convene a general meeting in order to replenish the councillors in a timely manner.

The councillors are responsible for planning and organising the activities of the Group, and providing support for members to participate in mainstream and Chinese community activities.

IV. Advisors

     In order for the GCCCG to grow and develop better and faster, the Board of Directors may invite some highly respected activists who have played an important role in the establishment and development of GCCCG to act as advisors to the Group. They will be invited to contribute to the work and activities of the Group.
